Vin Diesel Cast as a Potato in Upcoming Film, Actual Potatoes Claim ‘Humanwashing’

Another casting controversy has erupted in Hollywood with Vin Diesel caught right in the middle.

The Report

The highly anticipated film documenting the rise of The Idaho Potato Commission has finally found an actor for its coveted lead role in Vin Diesel of Fast and Furious  fame.  The role of Steve the Potato was shopped around to many notable actors, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Channing Tatum, the reanimated body of Don Rickles, and, of course, Meryl Streep.

However, this casting decision was not met with universal praise.  Many potatoes have come forward to share their disapproval, citing that Hollywood has once again miscast a role in order to bank off the star-power of its lead actor rather than cast one of many qualified, up-and-coming potatoes in the industry.

Mr. Potato Head himself, Steve Harvey, had the following remarks:

“We potatoes are a proud group of vegetables that have proven to be just as talented as humans in film.  Potatoes have performed admirably in indie films in the past decades, proving that they are capable of performing just as well as the typical human actor.  However, it appears that Hollywood has put itself above equality and unity.  This is certainly a setback for potatoes of all races.  I urge that potatoes all across the country stand up against such opression.”

When reporters asked Vin Diesel about his thoughts on the matter, he exclaimed that he was “deeply disappointed” in himself.  He would later say the following:

“I’m sadden that I hurt so many people in this decision.  I had not done my research on the role until now and was not aware of Steve the Potato’s heritage.  My apologies to all that I’ve affected.”

Naturally, other actors went to Twitter to share their displeasure:

The president himself even even shared his two cents on the Vin Diesel controversy:

  1. Great bit of comedy here 😀

  2. I’ll confess that at first glance, I took this seriously. I don’t know whether my initial reaction is a sadder commentary on the state of the film industry or my own state of mind.
