Film Review – Missing Link (2019) [Video]

Missing Link

How frustrating must it feel to consistently deliver quality, yet see each film struggle at the box office? That’s the feeling that Laika Studios has felt for quite some time as their stop motion animation films have continued to disappoint from a business perspective. Missing Link, the charming, whimsical tale of a literate Sasquatch finding his family, is more of the same from Laika…for better or worse.

The following review will be spoiler free.

Synopsis

Directed By: Chris Butler

Written By: Chris Butler

Starring: Hugh Jackman, Zach Galifianakis, Zoe Saldana, Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, Timothy Olyphant, and Matt Lucas

Meet Mr. Link (Galifianakis): 8 feet tall, 630 lbs, and covered in fur, but don’t let his appearance fool you… he is funny, sweet, and adorably literal, making him the world’s most lovable legend. Tired of living a solitary life in the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Link recruits fearless explorer Sir Lionel Frost (Jackman) to guide him on a journey to find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. Along with adventurer Adelina Fortnight (Saldana), our fearless trio of explorers encounter more than their fair share of peril as they travel to the far reaches of the world to help their new friend. Through it all, the three learn that sometimes you can find a family in the places you least expect.

  1. So sad to see Laika’s movies strugle at Box Office. They are all artistic, high quality yet so funny. Even the Academy ignores em too. My fav one is Kubo and the Two Strings
