‘Toy Story 4’ Opens to a New Franchise Record While ‘Child’s Play’ Opens to Mixed Reviews (The MovieBabble Podcast Ep. 24)
It’s a weekend release schedule full of doll movies. In Toy Story 4, Buzz and Woody take one final adventure as they face off against a mob of antique dummies. Meanwhile, the reboot of Child’s Play opens to lukewarm reception. In addition to Toy Story 4, Disney continues its summer sweep with another successful weekend for Aladdin (2019). Opposite of success, Men in Black: International continues to drop steeply. The Secret Life of Pets 2 joins MIB: International with a steep drop as it faces its first real, head-on competition in Toy Story 4.
Why are there so many doll movies in such a short span of time? Nick and I speculate on this as well as the legacy of the Toy Story franchise, Sony’s franchise problem, and more in this week’s episode of the MovieBabble Podcast.
